Since we believe strongly in neutering cats we thought it would be a good idea to include a list of our best reasons for you to skim over just incase you’re on the fence and not convinced that cat neutering is something you want to be putting your cat through.
That’s one of the main reasons for folks to decide that they don’t want to be neutering their cat. Some people feel it to be inhumane on the animal and use the argument
“How would you like to be have your testicles removed if you didn’t agree to it?”
This is something that you have to decide for yourself but the fact is that the whole process is over within less than 20 minutes and your cat will be still be able to live a happy life with you without worrying about any little ones.
Lets face it…
If your lovely cat was to fall pregnant, could you care for it’s entire litter for the rest of their lives.
Chances are you probably couldn’t.
This would end up depressing your cat just as much ( if not more ) if it was to go through a pregnancy and find itself with a litter of young ones and then have them taken away from it.
Yes, male cats are neutered while the females are sprayed so even if you do have a male cat it is just as important (if not more) to have him neutered as he will be able to out on the ran dan every night having his wicked little way there is someone elses cat going to be left to carry the repercussions which will inevitably end up with a litter of cats probably going to an animal shelter to be re-homed.
That’s the main point we want to get across but here’s our
Top 10 Reasons For Neutering Cats
1) Animal Control
This a huge one as when 2 un-neutered cats get together, over a 7 year span they are capable of bringing in hundreds of uncared for animals into the world who will ultimately be left to fend for themselves if animal care centers don’t manage to pick them up and find a new and loving home for them. The rates in which a cat can reproduce is a lot faster than it will take to have just 1 of those kittens adopted. The worst part is that the longer they stay in animal shelters the less likely they are to be placed into a caring family as a lot of people will choose a cute kitten to bring into their home than a 6 year old pet. So there are cats that don’t experience the warmth of a loving family home in their lives.
2) He’s Be More Affectionate With You And Your Family
Neutered cats will be more calm after the procedure is carried out. They may be distant for up to a month in some cases but over the rest of their lives since their hormones won’t be affecting it’s behavior he’ll be a lot calmer around you and others he’s close to.
3) No More Spraying Around Your Home Leaving Nasty Odours Everywhere He Goes
Male cats are real territorial. They like to mark their territory and leave their scent around their home. It’s pleasant for the cat but it’s nowhere near pleasant for you. He’ll not be long in leaving a urine scent around your home. The earlier the cats neutered the more likely it is for this territorial behavior to be stopped. Sometimes in older cats it still happens. It’s more a habit the cat gets into. The earlier you get him neutered the more likely it is that he won’t get into that habit.
4) Keep Your Cat With You For Longer
With female cats that aren’t sprayed they let off a scent when their in season. This will prompt a male cat to latch on to her. This can result in your cat being chased too far away from the home and sometimes not find her way back to you. It’s thought that some feral colonies can be formed this was as the cat gets lost, can’t get back and has to resort to it’s feral nature in order to survive. Not every house cat can adapt to their hunting instincts the same and some can struggle to survive. If you have a female cat it’s better to get her sprayed to avoid the male cat latching on to her when she goes into season.
5) Keep Him From Getting Into Aggressive Fights
Neutered cats ( as mentioned above ) are naturally more calmer as their hormones aren’t causing them frustration. Un-neutered males tend to want out more and can disappear on the prowl for days at a time. During that time they can get into fights with other male cats with the same aggression. The fights that this will result in can be devastating to both cats.
